Job Description: MCGP Religious Director

The Religious Director at the Muslim Center of Greater Princeton (MCGP) will play a critical role in fostering spiritual growth, leadership development, and community engagement for the broader congregation and community.

Responsibilities:

1. Masjid Engagements

  • Lead daily micro-halaqas after Fajr and Isha prayers to provide spiritual guidance and foster reflection.

  • Deliver 1-2 Jummah khutbahs weekly, ensuring they are relevant, engaging, and resonate with diverse age groups.

  • Host a Friday evening community halaqa, encouraging dialogue and connection within the community.

  • Actively connect with community members through regular outreach and personal engagement.

2. Weekend School

  • Provide overall supervision of the weekend school, ensuring its growth and excellence.

  • Mentor students to promote character development and leadership.

  • Review and enhance the curriculum to align with Islamic principles and contemporary needs.

  • Coordinate class rotations with the Imam for student Q&A sessions.

3. Garden of Knowledge Academy

  • Manage and teach classes on weekends and weekdays.

  • Strategize and implement expansion plans, including enhanced marketing efforts.

4. Counseling

  • Provide counseling services to community members and youth.

  • Develop written protocols and maintain confidential records for all counseling sessions.

5. Interfaith/Outreach

  • Build relationships with local clergy and attend monthly interfaith clergy meetings.

  • Organize interfaith programs and events at MCGP.

  • Conduct quarterly tours of the masjid for neighbors and schools, including Q&A sessions.

  • Work closely with chairs of key committees (Religious, Interfaith, Youth, Social Services, Communications/Marketing) to coordinate efforts and recruit volunteers.

6. Fundraising Assistance

  • Collaborate with key donors and inspire small groups to support MCGP initiatives.

  • Make regular appeals at masjid events and programs to encourage donations.

7. Ceremonial Duties

  • Perform Nikahs and Janazas, if needed as back-up, ensuring they are conducted with professionalism and adherence to Islamic traditions.
